The fifth annual Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber of Commerce Route 66 Challenge
sponsored by Sonic Drive In and Amazon was held on October 15, 2022. The event
started at Citizens Bank of the Midwest in Doolittle and ended at The ARK
Community and Sports Center; lunch was provided by area restaurants followed
by the Awards Ceremony. Fourteen teams traveled the 33 miles of Route 66 in
Pulaski County completing "Adventures", "Roadblock" and
"Detours". Team #8 "High Hopes, Low Expectations", team
members Suzanne Wilber, Danielle Green, Teressa Faber and Tiffany Clutter
was the first to cross the finish line with the most points winning the game
and receiving $150 in cash, a road sign, Route 66 Challenge car flag, and
discounted entry fee for the following year; the team presented a $150 check
to the Pulaski County Branch of the NAACP. The Event Charity comes from the
Chamber for Good web site and is drawn at the December Chamber Luncheon. Awards
were also given to Team #9 "The Bewitched Babes", team members Sherry
Swanson, Charlotte Swanson, Mary Bizzle and Marci Macy for "Best Team
Theme". Team #8 "High Hopes, Low Expectations" received the
"Social Media" award and to Team #10, "Team Aligned",
team members Karen Snyder, James Breckenridge, Staci Tomlinson, Chris Wilson
and Kiley Wilson, the "Give Back Award", for spending the most in
support of shopping local. Team #3, "Babies-R-Us", team members
Scott & Kim Tiemann were presented the "Got Kicked on Route 66 Award"
for having the most challenges during the event but still completing with
a smile.
The event consisted of "Adventures" the teams were required to
complete. These Adventures were made possible by our sponsors; Sonic Drive
In, Amazon, Security Bank of Pulaski County, Waypoint United Methodist Church,
Citizen Bank of the Midwest, Bank of Iberia, Pulaski County Sewer District,
Columbia College- Fort Leonard Wood and Waynesville, and Pulaski County Health
Center. Along the way there were "Detours" the teams could do for
additional points, the detours were sponsored by 44 Waynesville Self Storage,
American Family Insurance, City of Waynesville, Pulaski County Tourism Bureau
and Visitor Center, Sellers-Sexton Powersports, NextHome Team Ellis, Sign
Smart, Splash Designs, TK's Pizza and United Veteran Benefits Agency. The
teams were able to attain economic points during the event. All together the
teams spent $388.62, shopping local during the event. Teams were provided
the opportunity to 'thank' Pulaski County Museum & Historical Society
and American Family blessing in a box by making monetary and in-kind donations.
